I got played, but...
I thought I was buying the 2019 Shaft, but as it turns out, this is the 2000 Shaft - exact same name and still has Samuel L. Jackson. As it turns out, I never saw this one and it was an excellent movie. Not at all sorry I bought it. I was blown away by Jeffrey Wright's performance. My wife kept asking how did they make Christian Bale look so young, but since this is a 19 year old movie, I guess that's how. I probably should have giving five stars, but I still feel duped.

It's fun just to watch Jackson cop an attitude
This was based off the iconic 1970s blaxploitation film Shaft this time starring Samuel L. Jackson in the lead. It was made by John Singleton and had Shaft being a New York City cop instead of a private detective like in the original. His case involves a possible racist murder by a wealthy trust fund kid named Walter Wade Jr. (Christian Bale).Jackson is great at these roles because he gets to show some attitude. When he arrests Wade for instance he punches him for a racist comment he made about his victim. When his boss tells him he’s off the case he punches Wade a second time to be defiant. He gets to show that attitude not only with the crooks but with some fellow cops as well. The movie has a good mix of Jackson acting the tough guy, chasing after Wade and a witness, and some action.

Bad Mutha..."Shut yo mouth" Pretty good remake!
All I can say is that this movie really gets you involved with the characters. I found myself engaged, that rarely happens. Sam L. Jackson is an awesome actor; no matter what movie I buy, if he is the leading character, I am never disappointed. I've seen both the original and I really enjoyed this updated version because John Singleton has captured the tempo and continual racial problems in today's New York City...artistically, music is still the best (from original film) and the acting couldn't be better. Even if you're not old enough to have seen the original, this should be a must watch on anybody's list!

Feel lke I got the shaft
Disappointing story with S. L. Jackson doing his usual thing, though as always he is entertaining. The script cliches, however, were deadlier than Shaft. Writing is akin to a 1980s' TV movie: the bad guys can't aim their guns. The worst was the scenario. Shaft rightfully follows up on a senseless and brutal act of racism; but did so many people have to die to bring the assailant to justice? Shaft's instigation created a bloodbath, when all he had to do was track down the bad guy, who didn't even hide so we well. Even the witness's life took a downturn when Shaft got involved. I guess if you want justice, you end up getting the Shaft!

GREAT-GREAT-GREAT!
Love this movie - love this Samuel Jackson actor. This was such a great movie that I bought it twice, one in VHS, now in DVD. Saw it at least 7 times and ready to see again. Such a tough guy with heart, Shaft personifies what you expect a cop to be. Vanessa Williams is a great actress -- one of her best movie roles in my opinion. This role was one where she portrayed a plain working woman instead of a pretty role and she carried it brilliantly. Jeffrey Wright deserves loads of compliments for his role and it was a winning role -- he did such a great job as an Hispanic bad guy. Also Christian Bale was brilliant in his acting as the ultimate evil guy. The two bad cops were so good too. Oh yeah -- there were good guys portrayed by Richard Roundtree and Gordon Parks -- so glad to see them return from the first Shaft movie, great actor and director. And great acting by Busta Rhymes too. I just can't stop complimenting but got to before I tell the end of the movie.

Samuel L. Jackson at his best
It is is an action-packed street drama, with many comedic touches. You better not be sensitive to foul language, because Samuel L. Jackson is completely uncensored in this detective drama. A plus is that the original "Shaft", Richard Roundtree, prominently features in this flick.

Shaft (2000)
This is Paramount’s Shaft (2000). If you don’t have the other 4 Shaft films, probably get the collection that includes MGM’s Shaft (1971), Shaft’s Big Score, Shaft in Africa, and Warner Bros. Shaft (2019). There’s also a 7 episode TV show you can probably find somewhere too.

Highly impressive reinterpretation for a modern audience
Excellent service. The package arrived on time and in excellent condition. I really enjoyed the movie and all of the extras. This was Samuel L Jackson at his finest in his first appearance as the iconic Shaft under the director John Singleton. As you'd expect the soundtrack is outstanding and the collection of actors are stellar. This has a gritty and highly entertaining storyline and of course, the original actor in the first ever movie, Richard Roundtree. Truly one for your collection.

"..SUPER COOL MOVIE.."
This is a badass action crime thriller all the way, made in 2000 based on the 70's character, you don't need to see the original to enjoy this, the casting is perfect in this movie making it even more of a modern day classic, Samuel L Jackson is perfect as shaft, a great actor who never fails to entertain, when a man is murdered outside a club one night the killer gets off free by some minor technicalities and his high up contacts but shaft decides he will stop at nothing to put him away!! Christian Bale plays the killer (the villain you love to hate) one of his very early roles as a big star and a great one it is too, the movie has a cool soundtrack of course, plenty of great dialogue, some witty comical lines from Jackson, there's plenty of good action and bloody shoot-outs, its an overall easy going cool movie that's a must see especially if your a big Jackson fan.Blu-ray has a great pictureFeatures include a couple of featurettes and a trailer,Region B, 99-mins, 2000

A really fun remake
Quite a simple and straightforward story allows Samuel L Jackson to chew every piece of scenery. He makes the most of every second of screen time. The action set pieces are fine but it’s Jackson that is loving this part more than any other.

Samuel L at his best
Excellent film showcasing Samuel L at his OTT best, action packed with brilliant support from Christian Bale as his amoral nemesis, the gorgeous Vanessa L Williams and in an early role Sonja Sohn from The Wire.
