Excellent Motorised Valve but be careful you get what you order.
I was encouraged by Amazon to write a review of my experience with this product but couldn't do so until I concluded matters yesterday by returning my Amazon refund.Firstly I would like to say this is an excellent valve that's hard to fault. It controls the flow of your hot water to your boiler or heating or both and does so very effectively. Our previous valve lasted 25 years. Its simple to to replace should it go wrong and without having any plumbing or electrical skills. With the electricity switched off the motorised valve simply clips off. Its then a matter of removing the the electric cable. The new motorised valve clips on and as the wires are colour coded its a matter of matching them to the respective wires in the junction box. The manufacturers recommend you use an electrician to do this but as I understand it current regulations state a "competent" person can undertake this simple task. Should you actually need to change the brass the 3 way valve itself I would advise getting a plumber unless you are particularly skilled in this area.My problems began when the valve failed and we were getting hot water and heating with the system set to hot water only. As I understand the main reasons for this is that the tiny motor inside the unit fails or the brass valve itself stops working. I contacted Amazon and they kindly refunded me so that I could purchase a new valve. I bought one almost immediately not realising I was buying from a "trusted seller. What I received was not just the wrong valve but was clearly a used unit. It was dirty, scratched and the central hole was had an black oily residue in it . (See pictures, my malfunctioning valve is the one in clean pristine condition). The seller refunded me without a quibble but I did put in a formal complaint to Amazon which didnt come to anything.I have decided to keep the malfunctioning valve as its winter now and its not too bad having the heating and hot water on at the same time even if you dont need the heating. I returned the refund back to Amazon yesterday. They seemed a bit confused by this as I guess its not often that people want to give them money back but it wasnt mine to keep. I couldnt fault Amazon during this sorry saga.In conclusion I would say that this is an excellent valve that should last for years. I will replace mine next summer when the weather is nice and warm. Should yours go wrong do be careful where you buy a replacement from and dont hesitate to return anything that isnt as stated..

Does not fit all drayton units!
I had a similar Drayton unit and wanted to just change the head, the old unit had 2 screws internally that affixed it to this pipe, the new unit had a clip and the 2 aforementioned holes are purely for stability and are not affixed.FAIL TO FITDAY 1 I had to line the holes up and use a hex nut and a washer for filler and a few fat cable ties to attach it to the pipe, this unfortunately stopped the valve mechanism from using the torque to turn the internals. Previous engineer had rounded off the screws inside the acl unit, so i had to use a mini saw to cut away at the plastic to be able to pinch the screws loose.DAY 2 I was going to send this back due to the fail to fit however i notices that the pipe spacing etc were identical on both units, as such i just drained the heating system and replaced the whole valve keeping the old olive washers in place . I thought i had a dud unit as it was working backwards , e.g water calling for heating and heating calling for water however this was the fault of a previous contractor on the job. for anyone else having this specific issue , swap the GREY and the WHITE cables over as these control the triggering of either H - heating or W - Hot water.Works pretty much as expected and I am once again enjoying the thrills of washing plates under hot water! So pipe spacing seems universal but the head affixing are not.For those interested the previous INCOMPATIBLE model installed was a "Drayton - acl Lifestyle - Mid position valve" and the top box was incompatible.RESOLVED WITH KIT!Thanks Drayton for keeping most things as similar as possible over the years, helps out so much!

Excellent replacement for old unit.
I bought this to replace an old Danfoss unit I fitted back in 2004. The old unit's spindle seal had gone, causing corrosion and it would stick on CH only, making it very hot when there was demand for HW!This new unit was a perfect fit.I could have re-used the old nuts and olives but went for the better option of carefully cutting partly into the old olives and snapping with a twist of a small screwdriver. I was then able to use the supplied nuts and olives.Don't forget your PTFE tape on the threads! The port orientation is exactly the same as the old Danfoss unit, which is great. The cable on this unit has 5 wires as opposed to 4 on the Danfoss - the extra one is the earth wire. All other wires are standard installation colours - the Danfoss had a non-standard brown and white which corresponds to white. The call wires can be swapped if opposite port orientation is required. This unit has a locking lever which has to be pushed to the right and fully in before fitting. It is then supposed to pop back out once a call is made for CH or HW. This failed to happen on my unit but I was able to pull it out again and all worked well.I like the indicator which shows where the current demand is - HW, both or CH.This unit is a fantastic price here on Amazon compared with other outlets.Recommended!

don't replace it yourself
To be honest, it's a bit expensive, and it's best not to replace the body yourself.

Super fast delivery and great item!
When my existing motorised valve decided to start playing up, I needed a fast replacement so I could ensure heating and water system was functioning correctly and could not ask for a better service, the replacement item arrived a day earlier than expected ! This allowed me to complete the replacement as quickly as possible, the existing motorised valve was also a Drayton so it was pretty much a straight swap with all the fitments being the same and as soon as wiring completed and power switched on everything functioned as it should once more ! Thank you for an excellent service especially this time of year, when you need the your heating working properly the most !Highly recommend if you have a need to replace a motorised 3 port mid position valve....if you have an existing motorised valve by Drayton, this is even easier as everything aligns just right as replacement has identical fitments.
