Need to get a new user up and running quickly? Or just see what's on a bare drive without having to install it in a computer? CRU WiebeTech products, such as the USB DriveDock v5, are used by IT managers and departments to efficiently manage hard drive and computer tasks. The USB DriveDock v5 connects to common bare hard drives to provide quick access to their contents on a computer. Just connect the drive to the Dock, plug in power, and attach a USB cable to a host computer.

Good dock if you need USB 3.0, PATA and SATA
This is a versatile little Drive Dock. Wiebetech makes a lot of other products, though their price and function tend to skew the use of their equipment to law enforcement types. I have a few other vertical docks, but they only support SATA. With a few family members needing to recover/copy data from fairly old laptops, I figured it would be useful to have a HD dock that can handle 2.5/3.5 SATA and PATA. Almost all modern HD's will be using the SATA standard, but quite a few computers were still using PATA 5 years ago. It's not critical to have, but it makes me a lot more versatile should any HD issues arise. I've used this a few times and I've found the throughput to be on par with other USB 3.0 docks (meaning you're typically bound by the speed of the HD you're reading from, not the device itself). Wiebetech isn't a well-known consumer product, but they're well-known in the commercial realm. In fact, Wiebetech write-blockers are often used at data-recovery firms to prevent overwriting data on valuable Hard Drives. Don't think that this means that you'd need to go out and by a write-blocked adapter... you can write-block a hard drive in software (windows or *nix) easily enough -- look around online. For most folks, that sort of thing is overkill. If you want a dock that supports PATA/SATA, this is it. If you want something JUST for SATA, I'd consider looking at other products to save $.

Best tool for the job!
WiebeTech always comes through. I have a number of these little boxes, both v4 and v5 and they're as good as gold.
