Close to everything I wanted, but not quite there
Have had my fire pit for about a week now. Overall, I like it, but it's not without its issues.ASSEMBLY: Assembly is easy. You can do it with the tools that they give you, but if you have a socket wrench, that will speed up the assembly tremendously. The bolts that connect to the top are very tight, and will take you forever to screw in with the flimsy wrench provided.MATERIALS: The stone top had one tile that was missing (but in the packaging). The legs and sides are very thin metal, however they way everything bolts together, you don't necessarily need anything more industrial; it will stay put. The bowl is fairly thin, but seems thick enough to last a while. The table top cover is the main reason I went with this one, however it is way too thin to be of any use. Ditto the screen, I stepped on it at night, and it folded like a piece of paper. It can be bent back, but the steel is so thin that it's somewhat of a disappointment. An additional $5 in manufacturing cost would go a long way into making this perfect with stronger / thicker steel.PERFORMANCE: So on to the fire itself. Decent sized bowl, fire was easy to start, and very easy to keep going. No issues with the fire stalling because of airflow, it seems to get plenty with the angled bowl versus a cylinder. Extinguishing the coals with a hose is great, there's a hole in the bottom which did not plug up for me (until the next morning anyway). Cleanup is fantastic, the bowl removes easily and the tile seems to be holding up just fine to the fire and the hose. Putting everything back together is easy breezy, and looks great when it's back together and cleaned up.GRILLING: There's a grill grate for this, but not much point to it as-is because it is far too close to the coals to be useful. However using a few bricks can raise that up, you just have to be creative.VALUE: I paid $143 for this, and would do so again. I think at the $119 that people are seeing when it's on sale makes it a no-brainer, especially with Amazon Prime. There was a similar one at Lowe's for $169 that I wanted, which was the same basic configuration, but a little thicker steel. They were sold out for the year, so this ended up being my second choice. And all of this is by no means a recommendation against the product. I'm happy with it, and in the same position, would buy again. It's great to have a fire pit in the back yard, and it's really not a bad product at all -- with thicker steel this would be an absolutely perfect fire pit for me. But overall, I am reasonably happy with the purchase.UPDATE 8/29/14After using this for a few weeks now, I get more disappointed as time goes on with the strength of materials used. Lowe's ended up getting theirs back in stock, and ALL of the steel in the Lowes' one is thicker and stronger. The top for the table on mine is a little warped (it's paper thin), and the screen that was included is starting to rust. The grate that holds the wood/coals at the bottom is bending significantly as well. It was very kind of their customer service to reply to the review, but I don't think there's anything that can be done to improve the quality of the product. At a $99 price point, maybe. At its current price point, I would not purchase again. The few dollars saved in raw materials for production was simply not worth it from a consumers' perspective.

Guidelines for the Pleasant Hearth Fire Pit
Quick couple of thoughts for anyone thinking about purchasing this. I bought this after reading up on every review here. Here are some things to make your firepit hopes and dreams a reality1) Only accept the package if it is "unhurt". If you see any serious rips or re-taping... just send it back. It is not worth it. Take that extra week and get a full set of items. Mine was send back the first time. Took AMZ a week to send me replacement. No hassles.2) It was very very easy to put together ... not using the tools that came with it. A nice big Phillips screwdriver and a size 10mm Socket Wrench. It is really "cake". Took me about 15 mins tops and I am not a big "manual" reader.3) Small blemishes .. like the tiles coming off ... you can overlook it. Very easy to fix. This was a recommendation from another reviewer here and I totally agree.I love my amazon and I will continue to shop there... even after they open their new warehouse in MD and start taxing me ... their return policy is truly amazing.

Total garbage - and did not even have correct hardware to assemble!
The all time most disappointing thing I have ever purchased through Amazon. We bought this for our deck. Personally we would rate the overall quality on this item as"complete garbage. All of the other furniture we ordered through Amazon was absolutely lovely. Man, was this a bad purchase!!!1. We received this item with two tiles detached from the top. I don't think this was shipping damage - because the application is just so shoddy and uneven. I think they fell off because they were poorly set and affixed. The tile is heavy but looks incredibly cheap.2. The "bronze" top panel was slightly bowed/ bent because it is just so thin and flimsy. Furthermore the side panels are also just incredibly flimsy and it's hard to imagine the base would really support the heavy top of the table. The panels were missing three screws needed to assemble them.3. The feet have no sort of caster or glide and would scratch the hell out of any wood or stone surface you put them on.4. The fire pit is shallow and has only a hole in the bottom with no screen and a flat dish below that seems like a fire hazard to me.5. We tried to be good sports, and went to the hardware store to buy the few missing screws, but then when we returned, found that the nuts that are meant to fasten the top to the base DID NOT FIT THE SCREWS ATTACHED PERMANENTLY AT ALL. There were no other bolts that could have been meant for this. That was sort of the last straw for us. I mean, how many trips to the hardware store are you supposed to make to assemble something that is supposed to come with the hardware needed?? And it was just so poorly made. My husband said "I can take the top to the store, but it would be just as easy to pack it back up and return it because this is just GARBAGE. Whatever you paid for it, it was too much." I had to agree and we are returning it.

Okay, not great.
We received Amazon gift cards for Christmas and I decided to finally buy a fire pit. Something I have been wanting but not wanted to spend the money on. I was excited about this particular option as it doubles as a coffee table. Sort of. If you are a hobbit or tend to sit on floor mats instead of chairs, then this should work as a coffee table. It is really, really short. I should have figured it out from the measurements but somehow I didn't do that. That being said, it is pretty and it does work, sort of. Because it is really short it also has a super shallow pan which means sparks and flames all over the place if there is any wind at all. The side panels and legs are also quite flimsy compared to the very heavy top. Once it is all assembled this isn't a huge problem, as long as you aren't going to move it about. I'm going to try to figure out a way to create a safe raised platform for this so we can actually sit around it without getting our shins scorched or squatting to roast our marshmallows. The top is quite heavy and pretty and seems like it will hold up pretty well on the plus side.

Good design, poor build quality
We've had this table for almost a year now and we're pretty disappointed. When it arrived there were tiles falling out and we thought it would be fine if we just sit them back in place. After one winter, we uncovered it to find many of the tiles are coming loose and crumbling and we haven't even used the table yet! The lid provided is cheap and warped so it doesn't make a good flat surface as a table. The finish of the lid is not weather friendly either. We bought this table because of the size and height of it but unfortunately a good design is ruined by poor build quality.

but looked fine after replacing them
I admit, I had read all of the reviews before making the purchase, and most of those reviews had stated that some of the tiles had fallen off in delivery, but looked fine after replacing them. I was expecting 4 or 5 tiles to be off. I was heartbroken to open the box to find that over 75% of the tiles had fallen off (2 entire sides and huge portions from the other 2 sides). We debated about closing the box and sending it back for a new one, or just keeping it. In the end we figured that a new one would be shipped in exactly the same poor condition. Since all of the tiles were in tact and none were snapped we decided to put it back together. 2 hours of trying to replace each tile and it is still a mess, unless you figure out the exact spot the tile fell out of, the tile top is completely uneven and gluing them down is not an option.Amazon......you need to SEROUSLY rethink your packing/shipping option for this item. This is my first purchase from Amazon, and if this is how your items arrive, I can pretty much guarantee it will be my last.

Very nice quality for the price
Very nice quality for the price. We use it in the Winter in our backyard and although the bin is shallow, it works great! Love the grill top too for making things when the coals are hot.
